"Access for All: Bridging Gaps in Health Care Disparities" aimed to highlight the importance of achieving global health equity in communities around the world. This one-day conference fostered a stimulating environment for students from different disciplines in health and health care to engage in critical discussion around the various challenges to health care access in both the local and global health context. Attendees heard from experts in the field through keynote speaker sessions, and facilitated workshops. The Global Health Simulation gave students a unique opportunity to challenge themselves and apply their knowledge. Event included a continental breakfast, lunch, and afternoon refreshment.
Keynote Speakers: Mark Brender, BA’90, MA’93 Mark is the National Director of Partners in Health (PIH) Canada, a non-profit organization committed to improving global health equity by increasing health care access to vulnerable communities around the world. Mark has extensive experience in leadership positions throughout the NGO sector, with much of his work being devoted to fundraising and awareness initiatives. Dr. Paul Caulford, BSc’72, MSc’75, MD’78 Dr. Caulford is a family physician based in Scarborough, ON and founder of the Canadian Centre for Refugee & Immigrant health. The Centre has been providing free medical care to uninsured refugees and immigrants since 1999. Dr. Caulford is recognized for his advocacy, medical care and health equity initiatives on behalf of refugees, immigrants new to Canada and other vulnerable populations.
